Disaster Recovery Services

Genesis UMC has been sending teams of volunteers to areas that are recovering from natural disasters since November 2005.

Helping rebuild lives after Hurricane Katrina

A team is sent every fall to an area in need for a week of rebuilding and connecting with those who need hope and love. We join with other groups through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) to impact a community in another part of North Carolina. There is room for all, from skilled craftsman to those who have never used a hammer. Come join us and support this effort.

Down East Relief

A group from a trip to Goldsboro to help with house repairs.

Genesis UMC “Down East” Volunteer teams travel to Eastern NC on the 3rd Saturday of each month, departing from Genesis at 6:45 am and returning by 5:30 pm.

You can get involved by bringing your tools and helping with:

  • Storm cleanup
  • Home repairs
  • Build homes with Habitat for Humanity

This group serves people in need through the MERCI Mission Center in Goldsboro NC – MERCI is an outreach program of the North Carolina Conference of the UMC and is solely supported by donations and grants (i.e. not supported through NC Conference apportionments). MERCI serves the people of Eastern North Carolina and the world through two focus areas: Disaster Ministries & Mission Support.
