Disaster Recovery Services
Genesis UMC Volunteer teams have been traveling to Pass Christian, MS since November, 2005 to support the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Genesis is committed to ongoing support of this effort, and sends teams each fall and spring to continue rebuilding Pass Christian.
The First Wave involved a massive effort on the part of thousands to help rescue and cleanup immediately following the storm. The goal of the Second Wave is to create a fresh surge of volunteers to the Gulf Coast to rebuild homes and restore hope after hurricane Katrina. Many do not realize that as of November 2008 that as many as six thousand families still are living in FEMA or MEMA trailers in the county where Pass Christian resides. The time has come for people willing to rebuild these homes and move these families out of the temporary trailers. There is room for all, from skilled craftsman to those who have never used a hammer. Come join us and support this effort.

This group serves people in need through the MERCI Mission Center in Goldsboro NC – MERCI is an outreach program of the North Carolina Conference of the UMC and is solely supported by donations and grants (i.e. not supported through NC Conference apportionments).
