One of You

By Diane Hudson

Matthew 26:14-16

Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said,   " What will you give me if I betray him to you?"   They paid him thirty pieces of silver.   And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him.

Matthew 26:20-25

When it was evening, he took his place with the twelve: and while they were eating, he said, "Truly I say to you, one of you will betray me."  And they became greatly distressed and began to say to him one after another, "Surely not I, Lord?"  He answered, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that one by whom the Son of Man is betrayed!  It would have been better for that one not to have been born."  Judas, who betrayed him, said, "Surely not I, Rabbi?"  He replied, "You have said so."

Isaiah 53:7

. . . like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, So he did not open his mouth.

Holy Week a week most Holy

Foretold by prophets of old

Fulfilled with steps of Jesus

Telling the story

Beginning and ending

For all humanity to hear

From the tree to the cross

From Adam to Jesus

From betrayal to sacrifice

From Judas to the Savior

Holy Week has something for all

Palm branches soften the path

Precious oil anoints the body

The temple is cleansed

Holy Wednesday is here

A day of rest and solitude

The flutter of butterfly wings

The calm before the storm

The silence of the Lamb

As His sacrifice draws near

A day of preparation

Passover is coming

A day of quiet reflection

Of prayer

Away from the crowds

Jesus foresees His darkest hour

Priests and teachers and leaders

Ask who is this man

Let's rid ourselves of him

And his followers too

Do it quietly

Do not incite the crowds

What is needed is one person

To lead to Him in the dark of night

One of the twelve disciples

The one called Judas Iscariot

Went to the priests and teachers

What will you give me

If I deliver Him to you

Thirty pieces of silver sealed the pact

It was as Jesus foretold

 Truly I say to you

One of you will betray me

One who will betray

Turn his back to his friend

One who will sacrifice

Lay down His life for His friend

One who questions his Teacher

Allows Satan to cast doubt

One who follows His Father

Not my will but thine be done

The greatest story ever told

The betrayal was necessary to God's plan

Jesus the Son of Man came not

To be served but to serve

And to give his life a ransom for many

Will you take up your cross

And follow Him

His promise to you

You will never be alone

Your suffering may be long

But your reward will be great

From Hosanna to Hallelujah

From Praise to Glory

Blessed is He who comes

In the name of the Lord
