The Good Clay
By Lee Willis
“We’re the clay, and you’re our Potter”
Isaiah 64:8
“Clay doesn’t talk back to the fingers that mold it, saying “Why did you shape me like this?”
Romans 9:20
Whether you look at creation through the eyes of science or Genesis, God made all of us starting with only dirt and water – clay. He made you and everyone else, every living thing on Earth, molding each of us for a purpose. He gave you special gifts for a reason, shaping you into the type of vessel He wants you to be, for a reason.
Focus each day on being good clay and let God be the potter. Welcome the potter’s hand, flow into the shape He wants, and be steadfast in your determination to keep that shape and be the vessel He made. Keep in mind that His creation is not done, that He is not finished shaping you and your life. You are a work in progress. Accept Him and His Son’s teachings and have Faith that He will mold and prepare and equip you for that mission. Focus on being that good clay by having patience, trusting He is leading you where He wants, and lovingly doing as He asks.
Blessed God almighty, thank you for the gifts you have given me, and guide me in using them to Your will. You are the potter and I am the clay. Help me be the very best clay I can for You and to serve as You command. Mold me into the vessel of your choice and use me for Your will. Help me to accept the life and mission You have given me. Guide me to focus on being good clay and letting you shape me and my future as You want.
Amen.
